Welcome
Although not the capital city of Scotland, Glasgow is certainly the largest, with almost two million people living in the city and it's surrounds. Initially known for it's industrial side, Glasgow has in recent years undergone extensive renovation, and it is now a cultural centre for western Scotland and an internationally recognised shopping destination. It is also a centre for sport, with two world-class football teams, Celtic and the Rangers, basing themselves from stadia in the city, as well as being the designated host for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Glasgow has two international airports, Glasgow International and Glasgow-Prestwick International, with Glasgow-Prestwick being located much further away from the city centre than it's sister airport. Ryan Air is the main airline to operate out of Glasgow-Prestwick, whilst BMI, BMI-Baby, British Airways, Easy Jet, FlyBe, FlyGlobeSpan, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson Fly, Virgin Atlantic, XL Airways and many other airlines operate out of Glasgow International. Both airports have car hire facilities, with Glasgow-Prestwick home to Avis, Alamo, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt (in the arrivals hall opposite the baggage collection belts) and Glasgow International host of Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar, National, Enterprise and Hertz (also in the arrivals hall). Once outside of either airport you have the option to drive into Glasgow - take the M8 east from Glasgow International or the A77 north onto the M77 from Glasgow-Prestwick - or to visit the surrounding area. Edinburgh, Kilmarnock, Falkirk and Stirling are all within easy driving distance from Glasgow and are well worth a visit.
